Ecosystems

This post will cover some basics about what an ecosystem is  (en inglés y español ). I will also provide some wonderful video resources for kids as well as for older students and parents. The central themes are: EARTH THE ENVIRONMENT ECOSYSTEMS TAKING CARE OF OUR PLANET WHAT IS AN ECOSYSTEM? The word ecosystem is a portmanteau (a hybrid, or joining) of two words: 'ecological' and 'systems'. Ecological comes from the Greek 'eco,' meaning house and 'logia' meaning study. In the term 'ecosystem,' the prefix 'eco' is combined with the word 'system,' which means a set of connected things or parts forming a complex whole. An ecosystem is a natural system formed by a group of living organisms (such as plants and animals) as well as non-living things (such as rivers and mountains). An ecosystem is a specific environment comprised of interdependent organisms which share the same habitat. ~~~ La palabra ecosistema

How to Teach in Thailand

Are you wondering how to get a job teaching English in Thailand?  Don't worry, it's relatively easy to get an ESL teaching position in Thailand! Basically, all you need is a notarized copy of your degree, your official transcripts, a TEFL certificate, a passport and a clean criminal record! (Please check with your company for the specific requirements, but these are what you will generally need!) Are you ready for your adventure?! The school semester starts in May and ends in February, so you can typically start in semester 1, mid-May or in semester 2, which begins in November. Many companies will allow you to commit to a one-semester contract of 4 months, so you can see whether Thailand is a good fit for you without having to sign a contract for the entire year.  SEMESTER 1: mid-May - September BREAK: October SEMESTER 2: November - February BREAK: March, April The company I worked for is called MediaKids Academy, (it's a good company, bu

Random Facts about Europe

But first, here are some random things I learned about Europe: Spain has over 8,000 beaches. Castelldefels, Spain There are ten Statues of Liberty in France, 5 of which are in Paris. At the Tomatina festival in Buñol, Spain, people throw tomatoes at each other! Usually, about 150,000 tomatoes are thrown!!! The word 'ciao' -hello and/or goodbye in Italian- literally means, "I am your slave". France has some of the most ornate ceilings in the world.  During the running of the bulls (San Fermin festival) in Pamplona, the city is so full that people sleep on the ground. The metro in London is the second most expensive in Europe (Copenhagen being the first). However, in London, museums are free (yes, THE British Museum is FREE to enter)!!! V
